Page-by
Page-by lets you place one or more attributes from a report onto a "third axis," allowing you to view a specific section of the data in the report, while giving you the ability to change the section of data you want to view. For example, if you are viewing a report that shows Weekly Sales by Item and Store, you can place Store on the Page-by axis, and view the Weekly Sales by Item for the Boston store only. You can then switch the store to view the Weekly Sales by Item for the Chicago store. All the data from the report is still present, but page-by allows you to break it up into smaller, more manageable sections.

You can also place metrics on the Page-by axis. For example, if your report shows Weekly and Monthly Sales for all stores, you can place the metrics on the Page axis, and view only Weekly Sales for all stores.

Note: There can be multiple items in the Page-by axis.

To reveal the Page-by Section on a report, click the Page-By Section icon  on the Panels toolbar.

Place an attribute or metric in the Page-by axis
  • DHTML: Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the item's header and select Move, then select To Page Axis.
    • Drag the item's header to the Page-by box above the report. The Page-by area is highlighted to indicate when you can drop it.
    • Use the Show Pivot buttons method (described next).
  • HTML: Click the Page-by this field icon next to the item to place in the Page-by axis. The Pivot buttons must be displayed.  To do this, from the View drop-down list, select Show Pivot Buttons then click the Go icon next to the drop-down list.
  • You can perform the following functions in the Page-by field in both HTML and DHTML mode:
    • Click to move the specified page-by object into the columns of the report.
    • Click to move the specified page-by object into the rows of the report.
    • Click  to remove the specified page-by object from the grid.
    • When multiple objects appear in the page-by field, click  to move a specified page-by object to the left within the page-by field and click  to move it to the right.

The Page-by area above the report now shows the item's name that you moved and next to it is a drop-down list containing the available selections. For example, if the Region attribute is on the Page-by area, the drop-down menu for Region displays regions such as Southeast and Northwest. The report shows only the data related to the selection made in the drop-down list.

Note: If you do not see the Page-by section above the report, select View, then Page-by Section to display it.

View a different section of the report
Once a report is in Page-by view, you can change which section of the report is displayed:

  1. From the drop-down list(s) in the Page-by area above the report, select another choice.
  2. If the report doesn't automatically update, click the Go icon. If you have DHTML turned on, the report displays with your page-by selections; otherwise, it does not update until you click Go. For more information about DHTML, see General under User Preferences.
  3. After a page-by action, the Page-by area above the report shows the current choice in each drop-down list, and the report shows only the data related to the selection you made in the drop-down list(s).
Undo page-by and return to the original report setting
If the Show Pivot buttons are on, click one of the curved down arrows located in the Page-by area above the report. The clockwise arrow moves the specified object into the columns of the report; the counterclockwise arrow moves the specified object into the rows of the report. This can also be done using drag and drop or right-clicking (if DHTML is enabled), in the same way you move an object to the Page-by axis.
