Changing the default start page
You can select and customize a default start page that appears
when you log in. For example, you can determine if the last report you executed is
the first thing you see once you log into Web.
Note: MicroStrategy Web uses the Home page as its start page, by default.
Prerequisites
You may not have the necessary privilege to change the default start page preference.
For more information, contact your administrator.
To change the default start page:
- After logging in to a project, click the Preferences link at the top of the page.
- In the Default start page field, select one of the following:
- Default Start Page: Allows you to select one of the start pages in the drop-down
list. This takes you to one of the existing pages in the project once you have logged
in. The available options are Home, Summary, History List, My Subscriptions, My Reports,
Shared Reports, Create Report, and Create Document.
- Last Folder or Last Report: Allows you to select a report, HTML document, or folder
as your default start page:
- To select a report or HTML document as your start page, run the desired report or
HTML document then repeat steps 1 and 2 above. The Last report or Last document option
button appears below the Default start page field. Select it to use the last report
or HTML document you accessed as the default start page.
- To select a folder as your start page, go to the desired folder, and then go to the
User Preferences page and repeat steps 1 and 2 above. The Last folder option button
appears below the Default start page field followed by the name of the folder. Select
it to use that folder as the default start page.
- Click Apply.
Viewing folder objects: List and Icon view You can view reports, documents, HTML documents, and
folders in either a list view or a large icons view:
- To display objects in a list view, click the View: List
icon
on the upper right of any folder
page.
- To display objects as large icons, click the View: Icon
icon
on the upper right of any folder
page.
Using the folder path toolbar
While you are browsing folders, MicroStrategy Web displays the full folder path on
the top of your page.
To use the folder path toolbar to navigate folders:
Do the following:
- To go to any folder in the path, click the folder's name.
- To navigate to the next highest folder from the folder path bar, click the Return
To icon
.
Creating a new
folder
If you have the security
privilege to do so, you can create new folders in Web while browsing. You
can name these folders and use them to store and organize your work.
To create a
folder while browsing:
From List or Large icon view:
- While already browsing within the folder in which to create the new folder, click the
Create Folder icon
located at the
top left of the screen. The Create Folder dialog is
displayed.
- Specify a name and, if you wish, a
description of the new folder.
- Click OK. Your new folder is displayed on the screen.
Copying an object
You can copy reports,
documents, folders, and HTML documents from MicroStrategy Web while
browsing. After copying an object, you can place it in a folder of your
choice.
Prerequisites
To copy objects, DHTML must be enabled.
To copy an object:
- From a folder page, right-click the object to copy, then select Copy. The Copy dialog
box is displayed.
- Do one of the following:
- Navigate to the folder in which you want to copy the object and click OK.
OR
- Create a new folder in which to copy the object by clicking the Create New Folder icon
. Create the new folder and click OK.
The item is copied to the folder you specify.
Moving an object
While browsing folders, you can move reports, documents, folders, and other objects to other folder locations.
Prerequisites
To move objects, DHTML must be enabled.
To move an object:
- From a folder page, right-click the object to move, and select Move. The Move dialog
box is displayed.
- Do one of the following:
- Navigate to the folder into which you want to move the object and click OK.
OR
- Create a new folder in which to move the object by clicking the Create New Folder icon
.
The item is moved to the folder you specify.
Deleting an object
With the appropriate privileges, you can delete reports, documents, folders, filters,
prompts, HTML documents from MicroStrategy Web while browsing.
Prerequisites
You can only delete objects to which you have the necessary write permissions. These
permissions are determined by your administrator.
To delete an object:
- If you are viewing items in List view, right-click the object to delete, and then select Delete. You are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the object.
- If DHTML is disabled: Click the Delete icon in the Actions column for the object to delete. To
delete the item, click Delete; to cancel the delete process, click Cancel.
- If you are viewing objects in Icon view, right-click the object to delete, and then select Delete. You are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the object.
- If DHTML is disabled: Click the Delete link under the object to delete. To delete the item, click
Delete; to cancel the delete process, click Cancel.
Renaming an object
You can rename reports, documents, folders, and other objects from MicroStrategy Web while browsing.
Prerequisites
- To rename objects, DHTML must be enabled.
- You may not have permission to rename items. For more information,
contact your administrator.
To rename items while
browsing:
- Right-click the object you want to
rename, then select Rename. The Rename dialog box is displayed.
- Specify a new name for
the object and click OK.
Viewing information about objects
The following information is displayed under or beside all objects listed on the
folder pages:
- Name: name of the object
- Owner: who created and owns the object. The owner is also listed on the report or
HTML Document Details page.
- Modified: when an object was last modified , shows the date and time that each was
last modified.
- Description: a description of the object. If a description was added when a report,
document, or folder was created or saved, MicroStrategy Web displays
it under or beside the item while you are browsing folders. Report and document descriptions are also displayed on the Wait page while the request
is executing. Report and HTML document descriptions are displayed on the items' Details
pages. The owner of the object may have provided a description of an object to explain
what it is, how to use it, and so on.
You can also view the properties of reports, documents, folders, prompts, filters,
HTML documents, and other objects while browsing.
Prerequisites
To view all properties of specific objects, DHTML must be enabled. However, you can view some object properties while viewing the object in List view.
To view information about specific objects:
- Navigate to the folder in which the object is located.
- Right-click the object whose properties
you want to view.
- Select Properties. The Properties dialog box is displayed with information about
the owner of the item, the date it was last modified, its location, name, type, description,
and ID.
Creating shortcuts to
objects
You can create shortcuts to reports, documents, folders, and other objects while
browsing folders pages.
Prerequisites
To rename objects, DHTML must be enabled. For steps to enable DHTML, see DHTML-enabled
features in Web.
To create a shortcut to an object:
- From a folder page, right-click the object for which you want to create a shortcut,
and select Create Shortcut. The Create Shortcut dialog box is displayed.
- Navigate to the folder in which to save the new shortcut and click OK.
Export reports and documents from folder pages
You can export a report, HTML document, or document directly while browsing in folders,
without having to view it first.
To export a report from a folder page:
- If you are viewing items in List view:
- Click the Export icon
or PDF icon located in the Actions column for the object
to export.
- If the report contains a prompt, answer the prompt and click Run in View Mode.
- Define the export options and click Export.
- If you are viewing items in Icon view:
- Click the Export or PDF link below the object to export.
Note: If the report contains a prompt, answer the prompt and click Run in View Mode.
- Define the export options and click Export.
Browsing a list of related reports
From both Design mode and View mode, you can display the Related Reports panel, which
contains links to reports that reside within the same folder as the current report
or document.
To open the Related Reports panel to view a list of related reports:
- Click the black right arrow located on the far left corner of the Design mode or
View mode pages. The Related Reports panel opens. It displays a list of the reports
located within the same folder as the current report.
- To execute the given report or document, click its name.
- To close the Related Reports panel, click the arrow again.
